Speaker

Julie Morath, RN, MS, CPPS, is an international consultant in patient safety and healthcare quality leadership. She helps clients create cultures of safety and design reliability into clinical practice and the structures and mechanisms that support patient care. Ms. Morath brings a broad perspective and demonstrated results to her engagements.

She is a founding and current member of the Lucian Leape Institute of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF). She has been an elected member of the Board of Commissioners of The Joint Commission. Currently, she serves on CAI’s board of directors, as well as governance and advisory boards of several other associations and healthcare systems.

Ms. Morath founded the Hospital Quality Institute, which supports more than 400 California hospitals and healthcare systems. Previously, she served in executive positions/academic appointments at university teaching hospitals and health systems nationwide.

She was honored to be the inaugural recipient of the John Eisenberg Award for Individual Lifetime Achievement in Patient Safety from the National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission. In 2018, she received the Beau Biden Humanitarian Award from the Patient Safety Movement Foundation.

Ms. Morath has authored two books Do No Harm and The Quality Advantage. Among more than 50 publications are six major reports from the Lucian Leape Institute, including Shining a Light: Safer Health Care through Transparency (contributor).
